Founder Dan previously worked as a sales rep and design collaborator for Ball jeans in the 80s and it was here that he invented The Stonewash jeans for Closed in 1982, a fashion invention that opened up a whole new world within denim, after that Dan joined the Diesel start up and was one of owner Renzo Rosso’s key partners in building the brand for the next 17 years.
When we started researching sustainable leather we went from Turkey to Italy round China and on to Thailand... No one wanted to work with organic, ethical, sustainable leather, let alone second hand leather.
So after numerous resounding No’s, we turned towards less explored Countries and in the Cambodian Jungle we found a man who was willing to try. That “try” was the beginning, he is now the proud owner of a factory that has 40 employees, all working on sustainable production, ensuring that 20.000 people bought sustainable leather from us last year.
Our factory is located in the Cambodian countryside where work is sparse and the population often have to travel far across the country to find ill paying jobs with very long working hours, which is something we would like to see change.
With our factory we aim to improve working conditions, in way of a clean work space, training of staff, fair wages, financial support when our workers or their children get sick, we have very big dreams like a school for the workers children who are often not sent to school due to the cost, health care and much more, but all in good time.
